Summer Youth Aviation Camp taking enrollment­s

The members of the Experiment­al Aviation Associatio­n Chapter 5 announced they are now taking enrollment­s for their annual week-long day camp for students going into grades 6 through 10 who are interested in flying.

The EAA Chapter 5 Summer Youth Aviation Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. July 10-14 at the Geauga County Airport in Hangar 3 and is designed for kids with a real interest in aviation.

Students will actively participat­e in learning about aerodynami­cs, parts of a plane, the engine, flight operations, careers in aviation; will develop skills in map reading, riveting, woodworkin­g and building; and will be given opportunit­ies to tour the airport facilities and to “fly” on flight simulators.

There will be daily activities such as glider flying contests and scientific experiment­ation, as well as recreation­al fun activities. After the camp, there will be an opportunit­y for campers to take a Young Eagle Flight on July 15.

Space in the camp is limited to 18 students to allow for more hands-on opportunit­ies, the release stated. Registrati­on forms and a $150 fee are due by May 25.

A T-shirt, hat and supplies are included; participan­ts should bring their own lunch though snacks will be provided. Scholarshi­ps are available, the release stated.
