Watch list: Mentor, Gilmour Crop comments: The past few years have seen Chagrin Falls as the top team in The News-Herald coverage area and that is the same, but the gap is shrinking fast. The Tigers already got their season off to an up-and-down start with an 8-4win over Columbus DeSales and a 12-2 defeat against North Canton Hoover. With the new pieces still adjusting to the offense, the Tigers will look to learn quickly as they travel to Massillon Jackson on April 6. … University opens with Copley. … After a season-opening loss to Wadsworth (9-6), Kenston rebounded with a big win over Green (13-10). While a 9-5 loss to Walsh brought their record below .500, the Bombers still have plenty of chances to make a splash in Region 6 as they work through their early challenges in the nonconference schedule. The fast start to the season continues as they travel to play Pickerington Central and Olentangy Orange on March 25 and 26, as the trial-by-fire start to the season continues for the Bombers. … Hawken looks to build off its district round loss from a season ago with a lot of key pieces back, headlined by Gage Gretter in the attack. The Hawks get their season started against Waccamaw (S.C.) and Mytrle Beach (S.C.) on March 28 and 29before a rematch against University on April 4. … Riverside earned the final slot as it got its season off to a strong start with a 10-3 win over Revere on March 18. While they fell to Shaker Heights (7-4), the Beavers held with the Northeast Ohio power for three quarters before the Red Raiders got a kick-start in the fourth. The Beavers have a chance to exact some revenge from a season ago when they travel to Mentor on March 24.
