Five hundred people turned out for United Way of Lake County’s “Luck of the Irish Celebrity Server,” the nonprofit’s largest annual fundraiser on March 14, which was held at the American-Croatian Lodge in Eastlake.

According to officials, the popular St. Patrick’s Day-themed event — this year being the 18th in-person affair — raised over $56,000, “thanks to the support of the community.”

Radio personality Jeremy James, best known as the host of the Morning Show at Mix 97.1, served as DJ, while host Ryan Gilkerson served as emcee.

Servers worked to earn tips from their guests in support of UWLC’s work, as many employed a variety of methods “over and above” typical table service, like dancing Irish jigs, reciting limericks, and revealing embarrassing facts about themselves.

Morris Beverage III, president of Mentor-based Lighthouse Advisers, was named the top fundraiser and was awarded a large green “Shamrockstar” trophy in the shape of a clover that was handcrafted for UWLC by the Madison Public Library.

Crystal Adams, sitebased coordinator and community outreach manager for Torchlight Youth Mentoring Alliance was named “Best Dressed,” and was awarded a “Pot O’ Gold,” also created by the Madison Public Library team, filled with chocolate coins.

During the event, Ray Sminchak, managing partner and general manager of Mentor Nissan, joined UWLC President and CEO Dione DeMitro to select 10 finalists of UWLC’s “Donor Appreciation Contest,” which ran from August 2023 through March 1.

The finalists will have a chance to win their choice of a 2024 Nissan Sentra SV or $25,000, donated by the dealership.

According to UWLC,

the celebrity event raises funds to support Lake County’s most vulnerable residents.

“I’m deeply moved by the outpouring of support from our community,” DeMitro said. “To all who attended, sponsored, served as celebrity

servers, and donated prizes, desserts, and liquor, your generosity speaks volumes. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most….thank you for your commitment to our mission.”
