Delaware could hit 70 this week and see snow this weekend

- Greg Giesen

Say farewell to last week’s snow Delaware, it will be gone by Wednesday. But, there could be more on the horizon.

The First State received between 2-6 inches of snow during the last week, but after a frosty start to the week, most of it should be gone by Wednesday or Thursday. However, the weekend could see some snow.

According to Accuweather.com, high temperatures will break past the freezing mark and range from 35 degrees in the north to 42 degrees in the south. Tuesday will see temperatures rise from the low 40s in the north to upper 40s in the south.

Wednesday should be the day most of the snow will go away as temperatures hit the mid-40s in the north and mid-50s in the south. Rain is forecasted on Wednesday which should increase the melting.

Temperatures will continue to rise Friday with highs possibly hitting hitting the 60s in the north and the 70s in the south. Rain is possible on Friday.

Is flooding predicted for Delaware?

According to Mike Lee, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, the National Weather Service is watching for potential flooding, but with the gradual warm-up, the small amount of snow on the ground and the small amounts of rain predicted it’s not a very high concern.

“We have an eye on it,” Lee said. “We are aware that the area is sensitive to flooding.”

Is snow in Delaware’s forecast?

While the First State is in for a big warm-up, snow is in the long-term forecast for the northern part of the state.

According to Accuweather.com, Wilmington could see snow Sunday morning, but as temperatures climb during the day the snow will change over to rain as highs hit 44 degrees.
