WILMINGTON - Thomas Hayward Cox, age 83, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Thomas was born in Hockessin, son of the late Margaret Mae ( Johnson) and Charles H. Cox. Thomas graduated from Conrad High School where he was a member of the band and baseball teams. He went on to serve our nation honorably in the U.S Army and was stationed in Thailand. When he returned, he went back to work at Hockessin Supply (American Home and Hardware) where he had worked in high school. Thomas went on to get a Degree in Business from Goldey-Beacom College and went on to own Hockessin Home Center (formerly Hockessin Supply). He later became the shipping and receiving manager at Casual Marketplac­e in the same building until his retirement. In his free time, Thomas loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, loyal to the Eagles and the Phillies, he enjoyed golf, was formerly active in coaching Little League softball, including several all-star teams, and especially loved rooting for all of his grandchild­ren in their sporting events. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predecease­d by his brothers Edward, Charles, Donald, and his twin brother Francis.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sandra Lee Cox; daughter, Cathy and her husband, (Scott) Rowe; son, Brian and his wife, (Laurie) Cox; grandchild­ren, Kristen (Patrick), Kimberly, Kara, Kassidy, Brian Jr. (Erin), Taylor, Kayla and; great-grandchild­ren, Allison and Hannah; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom he all loved.

A visitation for Thomas will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10:30-11:30am, with a celebratio­n of life following at 11:30am. Burial will be held privately.
