Ronald W. Truitt

MIDDLETOWN - Ronald W. Truitt, age 84, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Ron was born in Salisbury, MD, son of the late Arthur and Catherine (Gravenor) Truitt. He grew up in Laurel, Delaware and was a 1957 graduate of Laurel High School. He began his college career at the University of Delaware before enlisting in the United States Army where he served in Korea. After serving in the Army, Ron continued his education at Goldey-Beacom College while working part-time for a small accounting firm. After graduating with an accounting degree, he went on to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Ron married the late Susan Fortner from Seaford, Delaware in 1964 and moved to Wilmington, Delaware where they had two daughters. He began his career as a CPA with Bernard Daney and Associates and later became a founding partner of Daney, Cannon, Truitt and Sarnecky. Ending his career after 44+ years, Ron retired from Belfint, Lyons and Shuman in 2008.

Ron and Sue were members of Saint David’s Episcopal Church until moving to Middletown, Delaware in 1998, where they became members of Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church. Ron was an active member of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware, serving as Treasurer under five bishops and enjoyed traveling twice a year for Credo Conferences. He was especially proud to be a member of the Clergy Search Committee.

Ron was also a proud member of the Freemasonry, like his father, and enjoyed his time spent with the fraternal organization. He enjoyed golf, travel, visiting with old friends and making countless new friends. You only had to meet Ron once to know you had a friend for life. He absolutely loved spending time with family, especially during the holidays. He was a proud “Poppy” to all three of his grandchildren and was a faithful taxi driver and caregiver when called upon.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife Susan F. Truitt and is survived by his two daughters, Laurie M. Capp and Jennifer L. Melendez-Truitt (wife, Rebecca); his grandchildren, Cameron A. Capp, Cassidy J. Capp and Samuel D. Melendez-Truitt; his brother, John B. Truitt (wife, Margie); and former son-in-law Dino C. Capp.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10:00AM at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church, 15 East Green Street, Middletown, DE 19709. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ron’s honor to Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church (www.saintannes.church).
