Helen Adams Foster

-

Helen Adams Foster passed away suddenly after a fall in her Cypress Glen apartment in Greenville, NC on March 18, 2024. She was 94.

Helen was born in Yadkin County, NC and graduated from Booneville High School. She had fond memories of her years playing basketball there.

She was proud of her job of 9 years as office assistant to one of the first female physicians in North Carolina, pediatrician Dr. Elizabeth Conrad. The office was in the Reynolds Building in Winston-Salem.

Helen married Henry O. Foster (Hank) and they moved to Newark, Delaware where Hank had accepted a job with DuPont in Wilmington. Years later they moved to Camden, South Carolina and then to Greenville, North Carolina to be near their grandson. They also relaxed at their beach home in Southern Shores on the Outer Banks for many years.

Helen loved caring for her beautiful home, her family and her friends. Most days you would find her in her yard, pulling weeds, watering flowers, trimming bushes or in the summer pampering her tomato plants. She always made pumpkin bread for her son when he came to visit because it was his favorite. Helen was pleased that her children and grandson graduated from college.

She was a lifelong advocate for women’s rights, the poor and the disadvantaged. As a member of the Unitarian church in Greenville she volunteered at the First Born food bank with her husband.

Helen enjoyed the game of golf, playing for many years with her husband, son and friends at the clubs where they were members--most recently Brook Valley CC in Greenville. She won first place in a tournament at the Cloisters and shot a hole-in-one at the Camden CC.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Shirl and Blanche Caudle Adams, her husband, Hank, her brothers, Troy Adams, David Adams and his wife Judy, Bobby “Mutt” Adams and his wife Betty, Harold Adams and his wife Jean, Howard “Sam” Adams and his wife Betty, and her sisters, Goldie Hamby and her husband Adolphus, Pernell Hobson and her husband Cole, her nieces Karen Goodman, Amanda “Mandy” Adams and her nephew Steve Adams.

She is survived by her daughter Leslie Foster Parker of Greenville, her grandson Zachary Adam Parker of Raleigh, her son Henry O. Foster Jr and his wife Jin of Arlington, VA, her sister Peggy Jane Lambert (Ray) of Pfafftown, NC, her brothers Ross Adams ( Jean) of Pfafftown, NC, Jack Adams (Ann) of East Bend, NC and Michael Adams of Stokesdale, NC along with many nieces, nephews and their children.

Helen was a loving and beloved wife, sister, aunt, friend and mother; she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Cypress Glen for making the last several years happy ones for her.
