New facility outside Lewes operated by veteran of sport

The Cape region has long gone without a gymnastics studio, but now, Delaware Dynamix in Harbeson is filling the void.

Owner Susan Guiteras, 48, has a lifetime of gymnastics experience under her belt, having competed throughout high school and college and coaching on and off in her adult years. She and her husband and co-owner, 51-year-old Mark Guiteras, had long played with the idea of opening a gymnastics facility.

“It’s been a glaring need in this area, I think, for a long time. I’m kind of surprised nobody beat us to it,” Susan Guiteras said.

When Mark Guiteras retired, the couple took the leap.

“Things started falling into place. Equipment, building, people,” Susan Guiteras said. “So we did it.”

Delaware Dynamix is located at 26850 Lewes Georgetown Hwy. (Route 9) in Harbeson, in a building that was formerly the JennyGems warehouse. A month after opening, the gym is serving about 300 students, Susan Guiteras said.

There’s a focus on recreational gymnastics instruction for preschoolers, but classes are offered for students up to 17 years old, as well as Friday night

“open gym” sessions and private parties. Most classes are one session per week, run September through June and cost between $75 and $100. A limited class schedule and camps are offered in the summertime.

“We plan to gradually add more classes and special events, as staffing and space allow,” Susan Guiteras said. “We intend to introduce an entry level competitive gymnastics team in the near future.”
