Richard William Hartman

EXMORE - Mr. Richard “Rick” Hartman passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2024, in Lewes, Delaware at the age of 76.

Rick is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Hartman; his children: Beth, Cathy, Billy; grandchildren, Molly, Mary, Hamish, and Alec.

Rick was born on August 6, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Mary and Kenneth Hartman. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1971 with a degree in Engineering Business.

Rick married his college sweetheart, a teacher, in 1970. After moving to Wilmington Delaware, Rick began working for ACandS as an engineer/ salesman. Over the next few years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. His children remember him as an honest, hardworking, kind, funny, and personable father who encouraged them to remember “a stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet.”

Rick enjoyed sailing, boating, crabbing, and fishing at the family’s vacation home in Exmore, Virginia. He was a friendly and confident individual who loved a good party, cared for his family, and enjoyed life. Rick was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and remained good friends with his fraternity brothers over the years.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 3-6, at Irish Eyes 213 Anglers Rd, Lewes, DE 19958. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rick’s life.
