WORCESTER, Mass. — The undefeated Western Connecticut State University football team topped Worcester State 44-25 Saturday in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game.
Kyle McKinnon rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown for the Colonials (5-0, 3-0 MASCAC), while Khalil Patterson rushed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass from David James.
Will Daniels and Austin Calamita also caught touchdown strikes from James, and Nick Kimball caught one from Tom Balacki. Jordan D’Onofrio added a 19-yard field goal. James completed 13 of 21 passes for 137 yards and three scores. Kimball caught four passes for 66 yards. Vinnie Scancarello led WestConn with nine tackles and Jihad Bryant had seven.
FIELD HOCKEY
GORHAM, Maine — Kimberly Brower scored the go-ahead goal with a little less than 10 minutes remaining as WestConn defeated Southern Maine 3-2 in a Little East Conference clash. Carly Matasavage and Morgan Matthews each scored a goal for the Colonials (8-4, 6-2 LEC), and Allie Noteware added an assist. Goalkeeper Neve Manion made four saves to secure the victory.
“It was an emotional win,” WestConn coach Dani McDonnell said in a press release. “Our early lead might have felt too comfortable as we let Southern Maine grab the momentum. They are an athletic team, but we capitalized when we got the chance.”
MEN’S SOCCER
DANBURY — Harrison Allers, Naseem Thompson and Spencer Ranno each scored a goal as WestConn defeated Rhode Island College 3-1 in a Little East Conference match. Chauncey Allers, Darion Richeme and Thomas Langkafel all added assists for the Colonials (9-2-2, 2-1-2 LEC). Goalkeeper Daniel Szabo made three saves to preserve the win.
“We came out strong today and scored a couple of goals early, which relieved a little pressure,” WestConn coach Joe Mingachos said in a press release. “We knew we could not take our foot off the gas as Rhode Island College will play hard for 90 minutes, no matter what the score is.”
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
DANBURY — WestConn swept non-conference matches against Nichols College and Mount St. Mary College on Saturday.
WestConn (11-8) defeated Nichols in straight sets, 25-8, 25-14 and 25-16. Kamari King had nine kills and Nyilah Horton and Ali Brochu each added three kills for the Colonials. WestConn also beat Mount St. Mary in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-21. King had 16 kills and Horton and Alyssa Dam added five kills each.
“I am impressed with the dual wins for Saturday, but the team will need to push further in terms of development to seize this season as a whole,” WestConn coach Don Ferguson said in a press release.

field State. Nicole Middendorf led the Colonials with a 21:37.2 finish in the 5-km event. Tessa Lee finished in 26:55.4. The WestConn men had only three runners available and did not score for the event.
“Every kid who ran today ran a season-best time by over 2 minutes,” WestConn coach Ed Lucas said in a press release. “They are getting better each week and each meet and that's all I can ask of them.”

PROVIDENCE — Kaleigh Panek, Aileen Maloney and Allison Oakley each scored a goal as WestConn defeated Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference game. The Colonials (7-6, 4-1 LEC) have won five straight. Goalkeeper Kelly Martin made four saves for the Colonials.
“It was another wellbalanced attack from our team,” WestConn coach Alex Harrison said in a press release. “Any day you can get a league win is a good day.”
WOMEN’S TENNIS
GORHAM, Maine — WestConn dropped a 6-3 decision at Little East Conference foe Southern Maine. Emma Chapman and Carole Allers swept the top two singles matches in straight sets for the Colonials (1-10, 1-6 LEC), and teamed up to win at first doubles.
“Despite the loss, the players are now beginning to see the positive results after making adjustments to their game,” WestConn coach Shawn Stillman said in a press release.
The annual awards banquet for the Danbury Co-Ed Softball League is scheduled for Oct. 26 at Anthony’s Lake Club on Christopher Columbus Drive in Danbury.
