Democrat Hilary Ram is looking to unseat Republican Bill Buckbee for the state’s 67th House District, which only includes New Milford.

Ram hasn’t served in public office before.

Energy, education and healthcare are her top priorities if elected.

Ram wants to lower energy rates, improve service throughout the state and hold Eversource accountable.

“It is time to re-think our energy policy and look to the future for ways to transition to clean energy and bring local jobs back to New Milford,” she said.

She also wants to improve school funding by creating transparency for the cost sharing formula and accountability on how money is allocated, as well as increasing overall funding. She also wants everyone to have access to affordable, quality healthcare that does not exclude pre-conditions and for insurance to cover mental health services.

Ram is a substitute teacher who lives in New Milford with her husband and son.

Republican Cindy Harrison is seeking a first term to represent the 69th House District, which includes Bridgewater, Roxbury, Washington and part of Southbury.

Harrison’s priorities if elected are no tax increases, improving the business climate and creating a sustainable budget.

When it comes to public service, Harrison most recently worked as the Assistant to the First Selectman for the Town of Southbury. She has been in this role for five years.

Harrison has worked for such notable companies as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Comstock Group, Timex, the FBI, IRS and Resolution Trust Corporation.

Harrison believes the state is in a fiscal mess. When she heard that Warren Buffet is advising that a business should not set up shop in Connecticut because of the uncertainty of the state's budget and taxes, she felt it was time to lend her skill set in accounting and finance to help solve the problem.

Harrison lives in Southbury, she is married and has two grown daughters.
