Plymouth woman arrested after one child killed, one injured in shooting
PLYMOUTH — A 43year-old Terryville woman has been charged in the shooting death of a juvenile and seriously wounding another child in a North Main Street home Friday night.
Naomi Bell was charged with murder with special circumstances and criminal attempt to commit murder with special circumstances.
She is being held on $2.5 million bond and will appear in New Britain Superior Court on Monday.
On Friday, State Police investigated the report of a shooting in Plymouth.
Members of the Western District Major Crime Squad responded.
The investigation determined that Bell shot two children within the residence, state police said. Her relationship to the children has not been stated by police.
While the children were not named, the victims’ ages were listed on the arrest report as being as 15 and 7 years old.
One child died and the other child is in critical condition.
The incident began around 7 p.m. when Plymouth police received a call about a disturbance in the 100 block of North Main Street in Plymouth, State Police Trooper First Class Christine Jeltema said Friday.
“Upon arrival of Plymouth police officers, they located two juveniles inside the house with serious injuries,” she said during a news conference.
Both were taken to the hospital where one of the victims died. The other is in critical condition at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, Jeltema said.
Taylor Wells, who lives next door, said he often saw Bell walking her dog and with three children, adding that she would say “hi.”
“I’ve seen her plenty of times, doing yard work making small talk,” he said in a phone interview, adding that he’d seen Bell less frequently lately.
Wells, who lived in the neighborhood for about three and one half years said he heard no gunshots coming from the home Friday night. He said when he saw the flashing lights from police and ambulances he thought it was a “medical issue” at the North Main Street house.
Wells said State Police were in the neighborhood Saturday morning asking people what they saw.
According to property records, Bell and her 47year-old husband, Owen Bell, bought a North Main Street house in 2003 for $165,000. The two-family house built in 1890, has 10 rooms.
