Christopher Arthur Marvin

-

Chris Marvin passed away suddenly on January 19, 2021. Born August 5, 1965, he was a long-time resident of New Fairfield, CT, where he lived with the love of his life and wife of 35 years, Carolyn Marvin. Chris was the son of Judith Diggle Pressmar (Kalispell MT) and the late Howard Adams Marvin, and stepson of Patricia Roberts (Newtown CT).

Family and friends were everything to Chris. He was tremendously proud of his daughter Nicole Adams Marvin Gorman (Stamford CT), and when she and husband George Gorman welcomed their daughter Cameran Grace, little Cami was a source of pure joy for Chris, as he unabashedly shared with all.

To his closest friends, he was a brother and family. Chris was always there for you, friend, neighbor, or stranger. You didn’t have to ask, he just did. He kept four chainsaws at the ready to help neighbors clear debris after a big storm. Chris thoroughly enjoyed conversation and debate, about anything and everything, and invariably had ideas for a “better” solution to any problem.

He loved cooking for friends and entertaining and enjoyed making the rounds in town to visit his buds or swap stories over a cup of coffee or a glass of good bourbon. Chris loved nature and all animals, from family German Shepherds to wildlife of all kinds. On a special visit to Yellowstone with his mother, he was particularly captivated by the buffalo.

Chris and Carolyn could often be found roaming the woods at Stilson Hill or revisiting Charlestown Breachway in RI, where he spent many happy childhood hours camping with the family.

Inspired by his father, a builder, Chris became a master carpenter and then ran his own excavation business for many years.

Chris excelled in all shooting sports including trap, skeet and sporting clays. As a member of the Connecticut Trapshooting Association, he distinguished himself as a trophy-winning long yardage shooter. He was a formidable and well respected participant. Chris was a member of the Atlantic Indians where he won the Signal of Peace, their most prestigious award.

Chris is also survived by his siblings Cynthia Marvin of Anacortes WA, Jeffrey Marvin of Woodland CA, Mary Scott of CO, and the Roberts family, as well as aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memories are welcome and may be posted at: DignityMemorial.com.
