Columnist for Hearst Connecticut Media wins award
STAMFORD — Julie Jason, whose financial education column has appeared in the Stamford Advocate and Greenwich Time for more than 20 years, was recently honored with the 2021 Clarion Award by the the Association for Women in Communications.
The award, in the category of “Financial Education in the Newspaper Regular Non-opinion/Informative Column” was Jason’s fifth, the AWC said in a news release on Friday.
Jason’s column has appeared weekly in the two publications since 1998.
On Friday, Jason recalled how when she first began the column, she was asked if she would have enough to write about.
“It’s wonderful to get recognition for being clear
on a very complex topic,” she said.
Jason said her column puts her readers and their feedback and financial situations at the center of the equation.
“That’s what makes the column an award-winning column,” she said. “It’s an honor to get an award like this and I look forward to hearing from readers on what they’re thinking about.”
Her winning columns from 2020 were “A new tool for clients of financial professionals,” “Some good news for early bird RMDs,” “Investors must embrace uncertainty,” “Are seniors in your family being scammed?” and “Reminder, no RMDs for 2020.”
This year’s awards were chosen from entries submitted from 20 states and three countries, according to AWC. The organization was founded in 1909 and works to advance women across the communications field.
Jason, who is the founder and president of Grant Investment Advisers, has also contributed to Forbes.
