Dr. Beverly C. Lee 1937 ~ 2021

Dr. Beverly “Bev” C. Lee of New Milford, CT, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 26, 2021 with her family at her side. She was 84 years old.

Bev was born on July 29, 1937, in Elkins Park, PA, the daughter of the late Arthur Sr. and Edna (Hanlon) Wickesser. She grew up on Long Island, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Garden City in 1955. Bev attended Cornell University, first as an undergradu­ate, and later received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 1961. Bev lived in Framingham, MA before moving to New Milford in 1964. She worked as a veterinari­an at New Milford Animal Hospital for six years before turning her full attention to raising her family. In 1980, Bev embarked on a second career becoming a faculty member at Canterbury School in New Milford. In her first year at Canterbury, in addition to coaching cross country, squash and tennis, Bev was appointed Athletic Director for girls athletics. After that first year, Bev transition­ed to full time science teacher, coach and advisor guiding students through some of Canterbury’s most challengin­g biology and chemistry classes until her retirement after 36 years at age 79 in 2016.

Bev is survived by her three daughters: Laura Quirk and her husband David of Easthampto­n, MA, Amy Lee and her husband Martin Kovach of Carlisle, MA, and Jennifer Chandler and her husband Corey of Watertown, CT; her brother Arthur Wickesser and his wife Millie of Huntington, NY; her grandchild­ren Deirdre Quirk and her wife Leya Strode, Keely Quirk, Kinsey Chandler, Brenna Quirk, Robin Chandler and August Lee-Kovach.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangemen­ts by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
