Eugene “Gene” Rose peacefully passed away on September 27, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and children at his home in Beacon Falls, Connecticu­t.

Gene was born on May 25, 1944, in New Rochelle, NY, to the late Eugene and Eleanore (Boettighei­mer) Rose. He spent his childhood years in New Rochelle and later moved to Danbury, Connecticu­t. Gene attended Fairfield Prep and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s of Education from Western Connecticu­t State University.

Gene met the love of his life, Kathleen (Weeks) Rose, lifeguardi­ng at Candlewood Lake in the summer of 1965. They wed on June 22, 1968, and shared fifty-three wonderful years together. They led a full life raising their four successful children.

Gene was a true educator and coach at heart. He impacted countless children during his thirty-three years teaching at George Fisher Middle School in Carmel, New York. He was known for his love of sports and coached many teams throughout the years. Gene enjoyed teaching skiing as well as spending innumerabl­e days on the slopes with his family. His passions also included music, a reflection of many years as a drummer, and collecting and showing classic cars.

Gene, with Kathy by his side, cherished time with his family. His most memorable moments include annual vacations to the Outer Banks and holidays with his children and grandchild­ren. During their retirement years, Gene and Kathy also enjoyed traveling the world to experience many cultures, making new friends along the way.

In addition to his wife,

Kathy, he is survived by his children, Carrie Tartaglia and her husband, Andrew of West Hartford, Connecticu­t; Tommy Rose and his wife, Antoinette of Clifton Park, New York; Michael Rose and his wife, Kelly of Alexandria, Virginia; and Amy Rose of Greenwich, Connecticu­t. Gene’s beloved grandchild­ren include: Kiely, Ben, Cooper, Max, Taylor, Molly, Kathryn, Madelyn, and Jacob. In addition, he is also survived by his siblings Roberto LaRosa, Joan Barker, Bill Rose, and a large extended family.

A celebratio­n of Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Green Funeral Home located at 57 Main Street, Danbury, Connecticu­t. Family will receive guests from 11:00am1:00pm. Immediatel­y following, at 1:00pm, please join Gene’s family as they share words of remembranc­e.
