John Matthew Casper, 76, of New Milford passed away at his home on May 3, 2022. John obtained his PhD in Chemistry from University of South Carolina and taught for 20 years at Bassick High School as a science teacher prior to his retirement in 2020. John previously worked for IBM in Danbury and was an adjunct professor at Housatonic Community College and other schools over his career.

John was born on January 28, 1946 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Joseph and Josephine (Padegomus) Casper. John lived in the Candlewood Trails community for almost forty years. In addition to his teaching role at Bassick, he was a volleyball coach for years. John was an avid sports fan and took great pride in cheering on his grandchild­ren in their sporting events, as well as rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates and UCONN basketball. He spent time with his family on Candlewood Lake and loved to play bridge with his brothers and family at holidays. He was an active member of Our Lady of Lakes Church in New Milford.

John is missed by his son, Christophe­r (Sarah) Casper of Cromwell, daughter, Lauren (Stephen) O’Keefe of Trumbull, brothers, Joseph (Madge) Casper of MA, Michael (Mary) Casper of OH, sister, Margy (Chuck) Hartwell of PA, grandchild­ren, Abigail and Samantha Casper, Liam, Sam and Caitlin O’Keefe and many beloved nieces and nephews. John was predecease­d by a sister, Mary Louise Casper.

Visitation Hours will be from 10:00-12:00 followed by mass at noon that will be held directly at Our Lady of Lakes Church in New Milford on May 16, 2022. Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT has been entrusted to care for John and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Daniel Trust Foundation, INC P.O. Box 320322 Fairfield, CT 06825, a foundation that John himself was very supportive of.
