Danbury man killed on Route 25 in Brookfield

Victim hit while off-loading equipment

BROOKFIELD — A Danbury man was killed while off-loading equipment on Route 25 on Friday, police said.

Harold Trafton, 58, of Danbury, died at Danbury Hospital after he was struck by a car.

At 9:17 a.m., Brookfield police received a 911 call about a crash involving a pedestrian in the 200 block of Whisconier Road — Route 25. Police said a paving company was off-loading a piece of equipment from a trailer on the road, when the accident happened.

Trafton was in the roadway when a car driven by Linda Pendergast, of Brookfield, headed south on Route 25 near Farview Road, moved into the northbound lane to go around the trailer. But in the attempt, police said, Pendergast’s car hit Trafton.

Route 25 was closed between Farview Road and Rabbit Lane untril around 2 p.m. as the crash reconstruc­tion team investigat­ed the accident.

The crash remains under investigat­ion by the Brookfield Police Accident Investigat­ion Team. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call 203-775-2575.
