Arrest made in railroad tracks death
DANBURY — A homeless man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose body was found near railroad tracks last month.
Carlos Enrique Guzman-Lopez, 46, was charged with first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault Friday after being arrested on a warrant stemming from a suspicious death investigation.
Danbury police launched the investigation after a man’s body was discovered by railroad tracks near the Maple Avenue and Garamella Boulevard intersection shortly before noon June 24.
The man — identified by police as 60-year-old Ricardo Uruchima — was found “lying face down in heavy brush,” according to authorities.
“Upon further inspection, it was determined that Uruchima had suffered multiple blunt force trauma strikes to his head and upper body,” police said.
He was transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner, where his death was ruled a homicide.
After discovering “several forms of evidence” that “led investigators to believe Carlos Guzman-Lopez was the person responsible for Uruchima’s death,” Danbury police said a warrant was obtained for Guzman-Lopez’s arrest.
After several days of searching, Guzman-Lopez was located, taken into custody and held on $1 million bond.
Although an arrest has been made, police said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
