Greenwich’s Shattenkir­k latest Stanley Cup winner from state

As the Tampa Bay Lightning captured the Stanley Cup with a victory over the Dallas Stars Monday night, Kevin Shattenkir­k became the latest Connecticu­t native to win an NHL title.

Shattenkir­k was born in Greenwich and raised in New Rochelle, New York, but played in the Mid-Fairfield program and at Brunswick. The 10-year veteran played for Colorado, St. Louis, Washington, and the Rangers before joining the Lightning this season.

On Monday, he became the eighth player from Connecticu­t to win the Stanley Cup since Cheshire’s Brian Leetch not only led the New York Rangers to the 1994 title but also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs.
