25 CIAC players to watch

Emma Appleman, Guilford, Sr., OH: The reigning SCC Player of the Year led team with 400 kills during her junior campaign and helped Guilford capture its first league crown in 25 years. She’s been named to the All-SCC first team twice, and was a CHSCA All-State Class L first team selection last fall.

Aerin Bowman, Darien, Jr., MH: A devastatin­g presence at the net, led the Blue Wave in blocks with 89 and kills with 201, while earning All-FCIAC second team honors as a sophomore.

Ali Castro, Trumbull, Sr., S: Returns for third season as starting setter after racking up 741 assists and helping Trumbull win Class LL title as a junior. Named to the CHSCA All-State first team last year and is a two-time All-FCIAC first team selection.

Ana Castro-Rodriguez, Masuk, Sr., S: Returns for a third year as starting setter after collecting 570 assists and 98 aces last fall. Named All-SWC first team and AllClass L second team as a junior.

Bailey Cenatiempo, Trumbull, Sr., OH: Four-year varsity standout has helped lead Eagles to FCIAC title in

2018 and a Class LL championsh­ip in 2019. Collected 340 kills, 209 digs and 58 aces last year.

Leah Chipman, Bristol Eastern, Sr., S: Key part of Bristol Eastern’s run to a 23-2 record last fall. Amassed 832 assists, 106 digs and 45 aces, earned a spot on the All-CCC team, and was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Associatio­n Under Armour All-America Watch List for

2020.

Zoe DiZenzo, Amity, Sr., S: Third-year starting setter DiZenzo has been named to All-SCC first team in each of the past two seasons. Collected more than 1,100 assists since the start sophomore season.

Clare Edminster, Warde, Sr., OH: All-FCIAC first team selection broke out as one of the league’s star hitters last fall, racking up 453 kills to go along with 445 digs and 62

aces.

Emily Grob, Joel Barlow, Sr., L: One of Connecticu­t’s top liberos led Joel Barlow with 409 digs as the Falcons won their eight consecutiv­e SWC championsh­ip in 2019. Grob, who also had 48 aces, was named to the All-SWC first team.

Kaylin Hadley, RHAM, Sr., MH: Led a deep RHAM attack with 328 kills and 74 blocks in 2019. Earned All-CCC East honors, with RHAM repeating as league champion.

Eliza Jones, Avon, Sr., MH: Returning veteran will be Falcons’ top middle hitter this fall. Racked up 83 blocks and 135 kills as a junior, when Avon claimed the Class L championsh­ip.

Zoe Lowe, Bristol Eastern, Sr., OH: Collected 378 kills, 84 aces, and 78 digs last fall. Named to AVCA Under Armour All-America Watch List for 2020. All-State Class L first team last season. Two-time All-CCC South pick.

Camryn Luginbuhl, Tol

land, Sr., OH: Has been a force for Tolland since her freshman year. Now in her fourth varsity season, she’ll again be a leader on offense for the Eagles in 2020.

Marissa Mayhew, Woodstock Academy, Sr., L-S: Defensive specialist showed versatilit­y when moved to setter and collected 396 assists. Finished second on team with 228 digs, earned All-ECC Div. I honors for Class L semifinali­st.

Helen Megson, Lyman Memorial, Sr., OH: Collected more than 350 kills, 70 aces, and 200 digs and earned MVP honors in the CIAC Class S final. The Bulldogs defeated Hale-Ray in that final for their third title in four years.

Alexis Neider, Jonathan Law, Sr., MH: Gives Law a veteran presence at the net after leading the team in kills and blocks last fall. She was an All-Class M and All-SCC first team pick last season. Noelle Powers, Avon, Sr., Returning libero will likely

368 digs and 58 aces. Cornelia Roach, Greenwich, Sr., MH: Returning veteran in the middle collected 144 kills and 56 blocks for the Cards last fall, and will be an impact player yet again this year.

Emma Rousseau, Seymour, Jr., S: Took over setter’s role as sophomore and helped Wildcats’ win second straight Class M title in 2019. That experience will be key, as Seymour graduated a talented group of seniors.

Lilly Saleeby, Greenwich, Sr., OH: Two-time All-FCIAC first team hitter has 684 kills and 398 years during her career, including 326 kills and

254 digs last season. Also named to CHSCA All-State Class LL first team.

Vana Servos, Westhill, Sr., S-RS: Versatile player will take on bigger role with graduation of several key players. Averaged eight assists, three digs, one-and-ahalf aces, and five service points to make All-FCIAC second team.

Elle Sneddon, New Canaan, Sr, S: Became first New Canaan player to earn CHSCA Player of the Year last season. All-Class LL and FCIAC setter steers ship for Rams and had 522 assists,

212 digs, 67 aces, and 73 kills last fall.

Avery Theriault, Conard, Sr., MH: Led a solid Conard team in kills and blocks as a junior, while earning spots on the All-CCC West and AllClass LL second teams.

Juliet Young, Guilford, Sr., L: Two-time All-SCC first team libero, led team in digs and aces in each of the past two seasons, collecting 405 and 75, respective­ly last year. She also earned a place on the All-Class L second team.

Alenna Zebarth, Cheshire, Sr., RS-MH: Zebarth is a returning starter who saw time on the right side and in the middle last fall. As a senior with experience, she’ll play a larger role for the perennial SCC power this fall.
