Drug take-back events set around CT

- By Peter Yankowski

Multiple Connecticut towns plan to hold drug take- back events this Saturday, part of an annual effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration to gather up unwanted pills and medication.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the events will look a little bit different this year, but most will be essentially the same as before: drive up, drop off unwanted medication, and leave.

Most events are being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

The major difference this year will be mask requirements for those dropping of pills and other unwanted medication.

In Danbury, police will

be collecting medicine starting at 10 a. m. in the front lobby of Danbury police headquarters located at 375 Main Street.

The department noted that medicines in the home “are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our waters.”

Ridgefield police will be collecting medicine at a drive- thru only event at the police headquarters parking lot at 76 East Ridge Road. Visitors are asked to wear a mask.

In Easton, police will collect unwanted medicine at Samuel Staples Elementary School, 515 Morehouse Road during a drive- thru event.

Drivers will be instructed to drive through and drop off unwanted pills in the front drop- off loop.

It’s not the only thing they’ll be collecting. The town’s EMS service will also be gathering cans and bottles in front of the school, and unwanted electronics in the back for recycling.
