KEEP AN EYE ON

For starters: Dan Hurley went with a small starting lineup against CCSU, but explained it had more to do with getting his most experienced players on the floor than anything else. He noted that the lineup could very well be different on Friday night, hinting that, among other things, talented freshman Adama Sanogo could start at the five alongside Isaiah Whaley at the four.

These guys are good: Hurley may have been highly critical of his team on Wednesday night, but Hartford coach John Gallagher is impressed by the Huskies.

“It’s their deepest roster, the most length they’ve had. This reminds me of the glory years of UConn, when they were first really, really good in the late-90s and first won it. Their length, they’ve got scorers, they’re 10-deep, they’re big, athletic, they can play small, they can play big. I think in a game like this, you just have to focus on your program and try to get better. Because they’re talented in a lot of areas.”

Big East pedigree: While UConn is back in the Big East this season, the only player on either team who has actually played in the Big East is Hartford’s Traci Carter, a fifth-year guard who began his career at Marquette. Carter was second in the Big East in steals as a sophomore.

“If you’re sloppy with the ball around him, he’s gonna get the ball,” said Gallagher. “He’s an elite defensive guard, and he’s got no fear.”
