National campaign for mask-wearing needed now

-

I am pretty positive writing the “Women Trump voters” column was a difficult task for Jacqueline Smith, besides the subject matter, also for many journalistic reasons.

The column and the responses from Trump supporters and voters reinforced my belief they do not give the real reason they voted for him because they are ashamed to give that answer because it probably is about race or money.

And voters who voted for him who are pro-life are hypocritical — how could they still believe or vote for anyone who would cause his followers to get sick and many to die? And there should be no doubt he is responsible for thousands to get sick and die because he did not require, or least promote, the necessary precautions of social distancing and wearing masks — the only defenses we have against the virus now.

Trump in his own words in March confirmed he knew how deadly the coronavirus was when he was talking about the virus and said “Some startling facts came out. It’s not old older, young people, too, plenty of young people.”

The 70 million-plus who voted for Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, should put pressure on the Republican Party to promote a national campaign for social distancing and mask wearing now. It’s people who spread the deadly disease and we shouldn’t wait until next year and watch millions of our fellow Americans get ill and many to die unnecessarily.

This political idiocy has to stop now — we are only killing ourselves! Paul Adinolfi Sandy Hook
