Brookfield public schools see more COVID cases
Brookfield Public Schools were alerted to multiple new COVID-19 cases last week, according to emails sent to parents, staff and faculty.
The district learned two members of the Brookfield High School community tested positive on Friday. These two new cases come after the district announced several other cases at the Center School, Whisconier Middle School and Brookfield High School communities Thursday.
There are three staff members and 10 students currently in isolation after testing positive, and another 62 community members in quarantine due to close contacts, according to the Brookfield Public Schools COVID-19 dashboard.
The emails did not state when the affected individuals were last in school but said all affected individuals and others determined as close contacts have been told to “remain home and isolate” for 14 days.
Superintendent John Barile said the dis
trict will no longer send updates to the entire community or schools unaffected by a positive case while on distance learning. Alerts will only be sent to “the affected school community,” the email read.
Brookfield schools continue remote learning through Jan. 15 and aim to return to inperson instruction on Jan. 19.
The decision was made according to guidance from public health and medical advisers who anticipate individuals have been exposed over the Thanksgiving break. Several other school districts throughout the area have gone on somilar in-person hiatuses.
“As the health metrics continue to change we will closely monitor the COVID-19 data trends in collaboration with the Brookfield Health Department and our District Medical Advisor,” the email said.
