NEW MILFORD — The Board of Education appointed Wendy Faulenbach as its new chairwoman Tuesday.

Faulenbach, a member of the school BOE since 2001, has served in various roles over the years, including chairwoman.

The board is comprised of town volunteers and elects new officers annually.

Faulenbach said she believes her years of experience on the board provide her a special skillset that will help her in this position, despite not being an educator.

Faulenbach is grateful for the opportunity and considers it a “tremendous committment” that she values.

Since it’s not her first rodeo, Faulenbach said she looks forward to helping the district continue navigating through the pandemic by focusing on its needs as they arise and addressing regular board business. She plans to have the board create a list of goals that the team can work on together throughout the year.

Interim Superintenent Alisha DiCorpo said she is excited about Faulenbach’s latest role.

“Wendy is incredibly articulate, knowledgeable, communicative and approachable which makes her a perfect fit for the position,” DiCorpo said. “I believe Wendy was deemed the best person for the role due to her high level of commitment to the district and her ability to listen openly to suggestions and ideas. In addition, her long tenure on the New Milford Board of Education provides a historical perspective that is truly valuable.”
