Joseph P. Houyou, 72, of Danbury, husband of Patricia (Schindler) Houyou, died on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Houyou was born in Danbury on April 30, 1948, a son of the late John R. and Nellie (Borodenko) Houyou. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School Class of 1967.

A carpenter by trade, Mr. Houyou was a retiree of the State of Connecticu­t where he worked at Fairfield Hills Hospital and later on to Connecticu­t Valley Hospital. He also worked at his uncle’s store the former Borodenko’s Brookfield Market.

Mr. Houyou was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran serving during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, antique car shows, wood working, “puttering in the garage”. Mr. Houyou was a big Yankees and Giants fan.

He most especially enjoyed the time spent with his family.

Joe had a lightheart­ed sense of humor and put a smile on everyone’s face. To know him was to love him.

Mr. Houyou was a member of the Baptist Church of Danbury where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Mr. Houyou is survived by two daughters, Patti-Anne Bun, and her husband Chan of New Milford, and Jolene Schrowang and her husband Hugh of Brookfield; five grandchild­ren, Jillian, Brandon, Alexander, Ella, and Emmaline, two greatgrand­children, Evangeline and Roman as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Houyou was predecease­d by two brothers, Arthur Regina and John “Buddy” Houyou and by a sister, Genevieve Wither.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at 11 a.m. in the Baptist Church of Danbury,14 Granville Ave., Danbury with Rev. Dr. Bob Payne officiatin­g.

Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Friends may call at the Baptist Church of Danbury, 14 Granville Ave., Danbury on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 after 10 a.m.
