Redding police probe burglaries
REDDING — Police are investigating one successful and two attempted overnight business burglaries along Route 58, including one at the U.S. Post Office.
According to Police Chief Mark O’Donnell, someone broke into the Pine Tree Garage at 63 Black Rock Turnpike and stole a cash register during the overnight hours of Monday into Tuesday.
O’Donnell said there had also been attempted “smash-and-grabs” that night at the U.S. Post Office and Redding Wines & Spirits.
The post office and wine shop at 121 and 119 Black Rock Turnpike, respectively, are less than a mile north of the Pine Tree Garage.
Other businesses along that 0.6-mile stretch of Route 58 were “untouched,” O’Donnell said.
A Pine Tree Garage employee named Bob said he learned through law enforcement that the garage had been broken into.
“We were notified by police that our front window was smashed,” he said.
O’Donnell said that a cash register stolen from the garage had been recov
ered on Meeker Hill Road Tuesday morning.
Besides the smashed window and stolen register, there was really no other damage to the garage, according to Bob, who was busy Tuesday morning trying to figure out how much it will cost to repair what was broken.
“We’re making phone calls and trying to get the business back up and running,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Christina Dias or Officer Peter Trahan at the Redding Police Department. The department’s phone number is 203-9383400.
