Ruth Ohmen Baird

Ruth Ohmen Baird died at Sharon Health Care Center on December 23, 2020. She was 94 years old.

Ruth was born on August

6, 1926, daughter of Clifford Chapin and Mabel Flynn Chapin. She was third of six children. Graduated from New Milford High School in 1944 then attended Hair Dressing School in Hartford. She married Richard Ohmen on August 16, 1947 and the moved to Cornwall in 1958 and divorced in 1978.

She was active in the First Congregational Church for 60 years. Ruth worked as a store clerk in the 50’s & 60’s. She also worked in the Library at Housatonic Valley High School. Ruth worked for Becton Dickinson in Canaan, CT for 20 years before retiring.

Ruth was a social person. She loved her family, playing games, cards, trips to the casino, The NY Yankees, and UConn Basketball. Ruth married Edward Baird in 1999. They enjoyed continuing her passion, except he was a Red Sox fan until his death in

2002.

Ruth is survived by siblings; Charles Chapin and Helen Leary of New Milford, Edith Johnson of Washington Dept, son Drew Ohmen of Warren, daughter Diane DePatie of Pittsfield, MA, 5 grandchildren; Heather Valenti, Jason Ohmen, Brian Ohmen, Jeffrey DePatie and Jennifer Foley, 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and

8 step children Jan, Edward, Douglas, Helen, Kenneth, Jack, Barbara and Tom).

She was predeceased by parents Clifford and Mabel, Sister Anah Munch, Brother Clifford and husbands Richard Ohmen and Edward Baird.

Because of COVID 19 a graveside service will be held at New Milford Center Cemetery on Tuesday December 29, 2020 at

2pm. Please remember to wear a mask and observe social distancing when able. Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street assisted the family with arrangements.

Ruth loved to feed the birds. Donations can be made in her name to Sharon Audubon Center, 325 Cornwall Bridge Rd, Sharon, CT 06069.
