Nelson Carvalho

Nelson Carvalho passed away peacefully on December 19,

2020 at Danbury Hospital. Nelson was born on March 14, 1935 to Abel and Amelia Carvalho in Danbury, CT. He attended Danbury Schools where he met the love of his life, Constance (Moore) Carvalho. They married on June 4, 1955. He was twenty, and she was seventeen. Nelson and Connie were married for 56 years before her passing in June of 2011. They enjoyed spending time with their family, as well as their second home in Titusville, Florida.

Nelson is survived by his three children; Nelson Carvalho Jr. of Titusville, Florida, Susan Iapaluccio and her husband, Carmine of Danbury, CT, and a son William Lee Carvalho who passed in

2001. Nelson was a father figure to Anthony Azzarito and Joanne Castillo. Nelson is also survived by his grandchildren; Melissa Carvalho, Christopher Carvalho and wife Amy, Carmine Iapaluccio and wife Amanda, Kathryn Iapaluccio and fiancé Charlie, Raymond Sherrer and fiancé Carly, and Shannon and Caitlyn Carvalho. He leaves behind six great-grandchildren who he absolutely adored. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Nelson is survived by his brother Edward Carvalho and wife Joyce, Norman Carvalho and wife Dorothy, and Raymond Sherrer and wife Bernadette. He was predeceased by his brother, Abel Carvalho and sister, Alice Pereira. He was loved by many nieces and nephews.

Nelson worked at Bard Parker Company for many years before joining the Danbury Police Department. He served as a police officer, was promoted to Detective, and retired as a Detective Sergeant in 2001 after working for the DPD for over thirty years. Nelson was named Officer of the Year in 1978. He was also a member of the PBA. In Nelson’s younger years, he belonged to the Engine Three Padanaram Fire Department. Nelson owned and operated N&S Auto Sales for over forty years. He became a staple on White Street, and was known for always washing his cars.

Nelson enjoyed going to Wildwood, NJ with friends and family, going to JK’s Restaurant on Thursday nights, washing his cars, mowing his lawn, and sitting back and enjoying a good cigar.

Nelson will be remembered for his fun and loving personality. Everyone who knew him knows there wasn’t anyone else like him. “People are people. Trees are trees. Places are places” was his favorite saying.

Private services will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT. Graveside services will take place at Wooster Cemetery on December 30, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., public may attend services with social distancing observed.
