KEEP AN EYE ON

Good to go: Freshmen Aaliyah Edwards (ankle) and Nika Muhl (foot) are both expected to return when UConn resumes play following a six-day holiday break. The pair practiced the last three days and looked good, according to coach Geno Auriemma.

“Unless something comes up,” Auriemma said, “I expect both of them to play and be impact players (Tuesday). Certainly with their energy and their ability to guard, they’re going to be really valuable.”

Williams 1K: Junior Christyn Williams needs only two points to become the 49th Husky to score 1,000 for her career.

“That’s amazing,” said Williams, who was unaware of the near milestone. “I remember getting my 1,000 points in high school. It’s just a great feeling. I’m a scorer, so I’m grateful for that.”

Williams would’ve gotten there sooner, but her layup was waived off when Auriemma called timeout in the fourth quarter of last Tuesday’s win at Villanova.

“C’mon, who wants to get their 1,000th point in a 30-point win on a layup on the road?” Auriemma joked. “Stop it. I hope she gets 30 tomorrow night.”

‘Like an NBA game’: UConn’s defense will get its stiffest test yet. DePaul, as it traditionally does, ranks among the nation’s best in several offensive categories, including scoring (88.3, 11th) and 3-pointers made per game (9.3, 19th).

“This is like an NBA game,” Auriemma said. “You’re not going to keep them from scoring, you’re not going to keep them from doing all the crazy stuff that they do, but you have to convert at the other end.”

History lesson: UConn has won 17 of 18 against DePaul. The Blue Demons’ lone victory came in the teams’ inaugural meeting in 1983 — prior to Auriemma’s arrival in Storrs.
