On the rebound: UConn is second in the Big East in rebounding at 42 per game, while Marquette is third at 39.2. The Golden Eagles are third in the league in rebounds allowed per game, at 32.5. The Huskies are right behind at 34.2.

Something’s gotta give: Marquette is second in the league in

3-point percentage at 38 percent. UConn has had the stingiest

3-point defense in the league, allowing opponents to shoot just 27.4 percent from distane.

History lesson: UConn and Marquette have only met nine times as Big East rivals, with the Golden Eagles holding a 6-3 advantage. But there have been some memorable match-ups. On Jan. 3, 2006, in Marquette’s first home game as a member of the Big East, the Golden Eagles rolled to a 94-79 win behind 41 points from Steve Novak. That remains the highest point total for a player making his Big East debut; UConn’s James Bouknight fell a point short of that total in the Huskies’ overtime loss to Creighton on Dec. 20. On Feb. 25, 2009, Jim Calhoun won his 800th career game at Marquette. On Jan. 1 2012, in the teams’ most recent matchup, Marquette scored an 82-76 overtime win, in which the referees botched the jump ball to start overtime, allowing Marquette to score on the wrong basket.
