Trump divided nation, and parties

- By Paul Adinolfi Paul Adinolfi is a resident of Sandy Hook.

On Thursday, Jan. 14, a letter to the editor of the News-Times (“President is righteous”) stated our president was a righteous billionaire who loved America and “couldn’t take it anymore” and entered the 2016 presidential race to Make America Great Again. The letter was greatly incorrect because our president is not “righteous, nor a billionaire” nor did he enter the race to Make America Great Again.

“Billionaires” do not sell steaks, ties and bottled water on television, and “righteous” candidates keep their promise and do not promise to release their tax returns, and don’t. The main reason he became our president (besides being a racist, and questioning where President Barack Obama was born) was because of our undemocratic Electoral College system. If we were a true democracy and used the majority vote to elect a president he would have lost by 3 million votes.

The reason he entered the Republican primary of 2016 was not to Make America Great Again, but to improve his public image. He was being sued by more than 5,000 Americans for $40 million who believed he defrauded them in the Trump University lawsuit, and because President Obama admonished him before the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner. In addition, that he was an adulterer and swindled hotels and casinos did not help his image either.

Now after four years of him committing acts such as separating children from their parents, and the atrocious, and unbelievable act of him being able to influence his own supporters and Americans not to take precautions against the deadly virus, and not to wear masks, that has caused the illness and deaths of thousands of his supporters, it is mind boggling and hard to comprehend how he wasn’t impeached and removed from office. Because he wasn’t removed he now has influenced his die-hard white race supporters to attack our Capitol. Our president, since the day he went down his escalator, has further divided our nation, our states, and our political parties, racially!

But he couldn’t do it without the Republican Party. The Republicans who had been the Party of Lincoln decided to invite the Democratic segregationist into their party to increase their voting power. Since the last century the Republican Party has been the party of choice of the wealthy one-percenters and major corporation owners. The Republican Party also have become the party for a dominant white race. You can count the amount of Blacks and Latinos at giant rallies and the attack of our Capitol on your pinkies.

It was evident that white, racist, die-hard supporters of the president made the atrocious attack when they erected a noose on the Capitol grounds. Our nation is now bracing for attacks on our 50 state capitols, and for the coming inauguration. The amount of fanatical racist supporters of the president have been overestimated because of the 74 million who voted for him and the thousands we see at his rallies, and the hundreds of fanatical that attacked our Capitol.

We were able to see and must realize most of the presidential supporters were not “fanatical supporters” and did not cause any damage. We also must realize the 74 million who voted for him weren’t any more racist than the 81 million who didn’t vote for him. Because we see thousands at his rallies and see hundreds of his supporters attacking our Capitol and we’re able to see fanatical supporters killing policemen and damaging our Capitol, we assume there are millions more who will attack our 50 state capitols and our Washington Capitol on Inauguration Day.

We must have more faith in our nation, and hopefully won’t have any major attacks on our state capitols, have a peaceful inauguration, and continue on our long and slow road to becoming a true democracy for all our citizens.
