New restaurants Moon and Kissaki expand sushi scene

- By Leeanne Griffin

Greenwich’s sushi options continue to expand, with the recent addition of Moon on East Putnam Avenue and the soon-to-debut Kissaki on Greenwich Avenue.

Moon, which celebrates its grand opening on Thursday, describes its cuisine as “a celebration of ingredients and flavors from Japanese, Chinese and Thai culture, all prepared with an American twist.” The restaurant features a full-service omakase counter, with 12- and 14course experiences, along with a la carte nigiri and sushi rolls.

Entree offerings include Colorado lamb loin, black cod and dayboat scallops and clams, as well as shareable dinners for two: Long Island duckling for two and a 32-ounce dry-aged New York strip steak. Other Asian-inspired dishes include vegetable tempura, kimchi fried rice and nori fried rice.

Craft cocktails are arranged into “bubbly,” “elegantly stirred” and “market inspired” categories, with shochu, gin, Japanese whiskey, rye and tequila bases.

Kissaki will open for delivery and takeout Jan. 27, the fifth outpost of owner Gary Kanfer’s culinary experience featuring Japanese omakase. It’s the first Connecticut location, joining others in Manhattan, Long Island City and the Hamptons.

The menu offers premium omakase box options (starting at $35) in addition to nigiri, futomaki, or “fat rolled sushi”; traditional maki rolls, donburi rice bowls and desserts, including chiffon cakes.
