Darien’s Knight picked for first-team selection, Hockey East’s top goalie
Darien’s Spencer Knight headlined Hockey East’s all-conference teams, announced Friday. The Boston College sophomore goalie, who helped the United States to gold at the World Junior Championship in January, was a unanimous first-team selection in a vote of the conference’s coaches and was naturally named the conference Goaltender of the Year.
Knight was the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, chosen by the Florida Panthers.
UConn junior forward Jonny Evans joined Knight on the first team, along with UMass junior forward Bobby Trivigno and Boston College sophomore forward Matt Boldy, plus senior defenseman David Farrance of Boston University and sophomore BC defenseman Drew Helleson.
UConn also placed two juniors on the third team, forward Jachym Kondelik and goalie Tomas Vomacka.
Providence junior forward Tyce Thompson, a Milford resident and son of Bridgeport Sound Tigers coach Brent Thompson, was a second-team all
conference pick.
BOBCAT FINALISTS: Quinnipiac seniors are two of the three finalists for ECAC Player of the Year, the conference announced Friday. Forward Odeen Tufto, who leads the NCAA with 38 assists and is second with 44 points, and goalie Keith Petruzzelli, who has four shutouts and ranks sixth in the nation in goals-against average (1.78) and ninth in save percentage (.929), were key pieces of the Bobcats’ Cleary Cupwinning team. The third finalist is Clarkson senior forward Zach Tsekos, who had 14 points and won 56.8 percent of his faceoffs. Tsekos transferred from Sacred Heart to the Golden Knights after his sophomore year.
