Tony Scott wins vacant 112th state House seat
MONROE — Republican Town Councilman Tony Scott won 53 percent of the vote, in unofficial totals released Tuesday night, defeating Democrat Nick Kapoor to capture the vacant 112th District state House seat.
Results released by the Monroe registrar of voters had Scott with 2,248 votes, Kapoor, a member of the Monroe Board of Education, at 1,948 and independent Bill Furrier, a Newtown resident, at 31. The 112th District includes Monroe and a portion of Newtown.
“I’m really excited,” Scott said after the receiving the results from his campaign manager Ryan Condon, who was stationed at Town Hall.
“This is a good victory,” said Scott, who served on the Monroe Economic Development Commission, as well as chairman of Parks and Recreation before his election to the Town Council. “I’m looking forward to getting to Hartford.”
In all, Scott won all five polling places. Kapoor captured the absentee ballots in Monroe 475-382 and Newtown 71-33. The unofficial vote tally was 4,227 in total.
Scott fills the seat vacated by JP Sredzinski in February. Sredzinski had run unopposed in 2020 and 2018.
Kapoor said he was “disappointed” but remained proud of his effort.
“There was no way I could have sat by during this election and not fought as hard as possible for the principles and programs
that I so firmly believe in,” Kapoor said after the results were announced.
“I can’t tell you how grateful I am to all the people of Monroe and
Newtown who honored me with their votes today,” Kapoor added, “and I promise to continue my efforts to ensure that the 112th District is one of the
finest places to live in the state of Connecticut.”
Kapoor then congratulated Scott on his victory.
“I hope that he will do his best to represent all of
his constituents in the 112th District over the next two years,” Kapoor said.
