Renate “Renee” A. Oebel

Surrounded by family, Renee Oebel passed away at her daughter’s home at age 86, in Crofton, MD. She used her beautiful voice to sing for many years in the German Arion Society choir and the St Rose of Lima choir. Known for her excellent cooking and insistence on ‘no leftovers,’ she also enjoyed travel, puzzles, knitting, and games with her family.

Renee led a full life, raising three children with her husband Karl Heinz Oebel (deceased). Following her immigratio­n through Ellis Island at age 17, she finished high school, married and later worked as a small business owner of a local restaurant in Bethel, a Realtor with Century 21/Merrill Lynch, and a bank teller at Gateway/Fleet/Bank of America in Newtown and Brookfield, CT.

She led a dedicated life of service and devotion to her family and God. She joins her husband and son in eternal rest and peace and will be dearly missed by three generation­s as sister, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r (Brother: Herbert Huber; children: Ingrid, Christel, Bernhard (deceased) Grandchild­ren: Elissa, Christina, Carl, Kelly, Monica, Katrina, Natasha, and Shanna and 11 Great-Grandchild­ren).

A Catholic funeral service will be held at St Rose of Lima, 46 Church Hill Rd, Newtown, CT, at

10 AM on Saturday, April 17th, followed by burial at Resurrecti­on Cemetery in Newtown. Flowers may be sent to Cornell Funeral Home at 247 White St., Danbury CT 06810 (arriving April

16), or donations can be sent to St Rose of Lima Catholic church.
