Former Penn State quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson is transferring to UConn, he announced Tuesday.

“COMMITTED,” Roberson wrote on Twitter. “Let’s Work.”

Roberson, a redshirt sophomore, has three years of eligibility remaining. The 5-foot-11 dual-threat played in four games for Penn State last season in relief of Sean Clifford. He was 11 of 28 passing for 85 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.

He’s the second quarterback transfer to join UConn this month, with Cale Millen making the move from Northern Arizona. The Huskies also have three other quarterbacks on the depth chart in freshman Tyler Phommachanh, redshirt sophomore Steven Krajewski, and freshman Jacob Drena, a walk-on from Southington.

Last season’s opening game starter, Jack Zergiotis, transferred to Merrimack.

Roberson, 21, is an intriguing get for UConn head coach Jim Mora and his staff, a raw but athletic talent with loads of upside. He was highly touted coming out of DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, N.J., rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals in the Class of 2018. Both sites ranked him one of the top 10 dual-threat prospects in the country.

He ultimately chose Penn State over offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Roberson began the season as the Nittany Lions’ No. 2 quarterback behind Clifford. He appeared briefly in wins against Ball State, Villanova, and Indiana, before getting more extended work on Oct. 9 at Iowa. Roberson replaced an injured Clifford and struggled, completing only 7 of 21 passes for 34 yards, with two interceptions. He also rushed 10 times for 27 yards. Iowa ended up rallying for a 23-20 victory.
