SOUTHBURY — A Wolcott man is being held on $1 million bond after he allegedly stole a truck off the highway, rammed into two state police cruisers and, in the midst of a struggle, attempted to take a trooper’s firearm, according to Connecticut State Police.

Troopers were called to Interstate 84 east near exit 13 just before 8 a.m. Thursday for a report of a stolen car. Police were told that a passenger jumped out of a car driving west on the highway, ran across the highway to the eastbound side and stole a construction worker’s personal truck, a report from state police said.

The passenger, later identified as Robert Christopher Brown, 32, of Wolcott, then allegedly drove the truck east and “intentionally rammed into two occupied State Police cruisers parked in the median,” the report stated.

Troopers started to chase Brown on foot, and “Brown actively resisted Troopers’ efforts to take him into custody,” according to a report from state police. “During the violent struggle, Brown had attempted to take a State Trooper’s firearm from his holster.”

Civilian drivers in the area stopped to help the troopers. Brown was ultimately taken into custody after someone used a stun gun, according to the report.

Two troopers were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries. The civilians who helped were not injured, the report stated.

Brown was taken to a separate hospital for minor injuries, according to the report.

Brown was charged with two counts of second-degree assault using a motor vehicle; two counts of second-degree assault; firstdegree reckless endangerment; criminal attempt at first-degree assault; criminal possession of a firearm, ammunition or defense weapon; two counts of assaulting a public safety officer; two counts of interfering with or resisting an officer; first-degree larceny, reckless driving and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, the report said.

Brown is being held on $1 million bond and is set to appear in court Friday morning in Waterbury.
