New Milford Board of Education names three assistant principals

NEW MILFORD — The Board of Education named three assistant principals at a special meeting this week.

Megan Dwyer was named assistant principal for New Milford High School, Shannon Surreira was named assistant principal for Northville Elementary and Schaghtico­ke Middle Schools, and Frank Jawidzik was named assistant principal for Schaghtico­ke Middle School.

Dwyer has been serving as an interim in the position since December 2021. She came to New Milford from Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, where she served as director of student activities since 2012. She also worked as a social studies teacher at the high school from 2010 to 2018.

During the 2018-19 school year, Dwyer completed her sixth year internship at both Holy Cross High School and Kennedy High School in Waterbury. Dwyer attended Central Connecticu­t State University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in secondary education, history; a master’s degree in educationa­l leadership; and an doctor of education in educationa­l leadership.

Surreira comes to New Milford from Terryville, where she served as the dean of students at the Eli Terry Jr. Middle School since 2018. Prior to that, Surreira was the mathematic­s coach for grades 6 to 12, as well as mathematic­s department chairperso­n for the middle school.

She received her bachelor of arts, child study, from the University of Saint Joseph; a master’s degree from Central CT State University; and a sixth year profession­al diploma from UConn.

Jawidzik worked for Naugatuck Public Schools as an assistant principal at City Hill Middle School, a position he has held since 2020. Prior to that, Jawidzik was an eighth grade social studies teacher for Cheshire Public Schools.

Jawidzik has a bachelor of arts in secondary education and history from the University of Rhode Island, a master’s degree in special education from Fairfield

University and a sixth year in educationa­l leadership from Quinnipiac University.

“We are thrilled to name each of the three newly appointed assistant principals to their respective schools this evening,” Superinten­dent Alisha DiCorpo said in a statement after the board’s vote on Tuesday. “Their prior knowledge, background­s and work experience will serve them well in their new roles and make them wonderful partners to their school-based administra­tive teams. We look forward to working together.”
