DANBURY — In this celebratory season of commencements, the graduates from the Alternative Center for Excellence also gathered recently to mark their accomplishments.

ACE had nine graduates from January and 12 graduates from June, for a total of 21 students in the Class of 2022. Of those, 17 participated in a ceremony held June 14 at Broadview Middle School. January and June graduates walked together in the ceremony. There were more than100 people in attendance at the event, according to Joanne Tolles, an English/guidance teacher at the Alternative Center for Excellence.

ACE Principal John Webber welcomed the Class of 2022 and their families. Mayor Dean Esposito and Danbury Schools Superintendent Kevin Walston also addressed the graduates at the ceremony.

Earlier in the day, ACE held a ceremony at the school that included all the undergraduates as the audience.

The Alternative Center for Excellence, a school of choice, is a high school program that supports student experiences that develop individual strengths, physical and emotional health and respect for self and others.

In addition to Connecticut Common Core Standards, ACE students are

able to participate in a wide variety of activities including camping and rafting trips that foster independence and build life skills. Students also engage in activities that benefit the community, such as the annual Thanksgiving dinner, which draws hundreds of people from the community and requires every student to help with the preparation, service and cleaning up.
