Konrad Schiffler, 92, of New Fairfield, died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. He was the loving husband of Magdalena (Kirchhoffer) Schiffler.

Konrad was born in Heideschütz, Yugoslavia on September 28, 1929; a son of the late Heinrich and Barbara (Hoffmann) Schiffler, he was sixth of seven children. He went to school with plans to become a teacher, which were upended by the closing of schools at the outset of World War II and the family's displacement. Following the war, he was resettled to Lager Feffernitz, Austria. There, he met his wife, Magdalena, a fellow Danube Swabian (Schwob), while he played the violin in church. Konrad was proud to start his new life in the United States in 1952, settling in Ridgewood, New York, and later, Middle Village, New York. He began his career with Starlight Knitwear in Ozone Park, NY as a knitter mechanic. Through hard work and long hours he worked his way to foreman, the highest position, which he held until his retirement in the ending days of New York's knitting industry.

Konrad was a member of the Board of Directors of the Danube Swabian Aid and Youth Society of New York. Since moving to New Fairfield, CT in 2004, Konrad and Magdalena were parishioners of St. Edward the Confessor Church of New Fairfield. Konrad loved world cup soccer, the Mets, woodworking, and tinkering, but most of all, he loved time spent with family.

Konrad is survived by his beloved wife of 69+ years, Magdalena, as well as their daughter, Rosemarie Petschauer and her husband, Karl. He is also survived by a grandson, Thomas Petschauer and wife, Melissa Cameron Petschauer, as well as his sister, Johanna Stutzmann, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters Elisabeth Holzmüller, Sofia Hoffmann, Katharina Schurr, and brothers Johann and Heinrich Schiffler.

As long as we live, he will live too. For he is a part of us and we remember him. Author Unknown
