Writing classes offered for all levels

-

The Arts Escape is accepting registration for its writing classes and workshops in July and August. Classes are appropriate for all levels.

Three-week sessions of its program on “The Writer’s Lab” will begin Friday, July 15, and Friday, Aug. 12. All of the sessions run from noon to 2 p.m.

Enrollment is limited to eight students, who may register for one or both of the sessions.

The classes will be held in-person and via Zoom.

In each two-hour session, students will spend time developing their own projects in several ways — through timed prompts, brainstorming ideas with fellow students, and receiving supportive feedback.

Each session is structured based on student need, and often includes a quick craft lesson, and references to relevant literature, as well as a discussion of questions.

The instructor is Nancy McMillan of Bethlehem, author of “March Farm: Season by Season on a Connecticut Family Farm.” Her essay “For the Love of Linen” appeared in the 2020 Connecticut Literary Anthology and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

She is the director of the Writing and Literature Program at Arts Escape.

Also at Arts Escape, on the first Wednesday of each month, instructor, website maker and writer Tina Tocco hosts a Children’s/ Young Adult Writers Forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom.

McMillan hosts a spoken word Open Mic event on the first Thursday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m.
