Police urge vigilance following car theft, break-ins
NEW FAIRFIELD — Police are urging residents to be vigilant and take precautions following several recent break-ins and one car theft in town.
Several vehicles were rummaged through and at least one car stolen during the overnight hours of Jan. 12, according to a post on the New Fairfield Resident Trooper’s Office’s Facebook page.
A New Jersey man’s white 2016 BMW X5 was stolen from the driveway of a Wood Creek Road residence during the early morning hours of Jan. 12, according to police, who ask anyone with information to contact the New Fairfield Resident Trooper’s Office at 203-312-5701.
In addition to the vehicle break-ins and car theft, New Fairfield police said they’re investigating an incident where a resident got “involved in a physical altercation with a suspect.”
“We are offering limited information as this is an active investigation,” police wrote on Facebook, adding that anyone who sees someone engaging in criminal activity should not confront them and instead call 911. Officer Jason Cassavechia declined to provide more details to Hearst Connecticut Media, citing the ongoing investigation.
While the areas targeted the night of Jan. 12 were Possum Drive, Wood Creek Road, Fleetwood Drive and Candlewood Knolls, New Fairfield police say “every area of town should be on alert for this type of criminal activity, particularly during the overnight hours.”
Police urge residents to lock and remove all valuables from their cars, keep key fobs far from their vehicles and consider turning off their car’s keyless entry system signal.
