Services for Trooper Walter Greene set
Family, friends invited to call at Sherwood Island on Monday
Funeral services will be held at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport for a state trooper from Norwalk who died from cancer thought to be the result of exposure to toxins at ground zero after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Walter Greene Jr. died Thursday after a long illness. He was 51. Family members and friends are invited to call at Sherwood Island from 1 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 11. Funeral services are at 11 a. m. June 12 at Sherwood Island.
Sherwood Island is home to the state’s Sept. 11 memorial. The New York City skyline can be seen from Sherwood Point on clear days.
Greene was a trooper first class with the State Police. He was born in Stamford and is survived by his wife of 32 years, Suzanne Greene; three sons, DJ, Thomas and Cody; his father, Ted Greene and companion of 20- plus years Danet Gaithers; his sisters, Marilyn Guest ( Tim), Gloria Nesmith (Charles), Natonya Wortham Wright (Orlando) and Pamela Greene; his mother- in-law, Dorothy J.
Brown of Norwalk, his father- in-law, Thomas E. Brown of Naples, Fla.; and many family and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Taylor Ayanna Greene.
Greene served four years in the U. S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of lance corporal and marksmanship level of sniper.
He joined the state police in June 1990 and served with Troop A, Troop G, the 101st Training Troop and the Statewide Cooperative Crime Control Task Force.
His death notice said he was an avid supporter of the Special Olympics and participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for many years. He enjoyed hunting, playing softball, DJing at parties and was a New England Patriots fan.
