Car stop leads to prostitution charges
NORWALK — A motor vehicle stop for a man that police said was driving without a license led to charges of prostitution against a New York woman and patronizing a prostitute charge against a Norwalk man.
Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Special Services Division officers were patrolling the area of South Main Street when they observed a man that was known as having a suspended license driving toward them.
They stopped the car driven by Edgar Sanchez, 25, of Main Street. Police said Sanchez had been arrested multiple times and had just had contact with police three weeks prior.
Police said Sanchez had two passengers — a male and female — in the car. When officers stopped the car, police said the man in the back seat attempted to leave.
According to police, Sanchez was in possession of a small amount of marijuana and officers conducted a search of his vehicle.
The female, later identified as Guadalupe Morales-Avila, 29, of Queens, N.Y., was in possession of a large amount of cash wrapped in a napkin along with additional cash in a purse. With suspicions raised about possible criminal activities, police asked MoralesAvila and the male passenger, Idelfonso UrbanoRoman, 48, to identify one another by name.
Police said that she was unable to name the male passenger and he referred to her as “Monica.”
A further search yielded the woman’s business cards advertising “Spa Melanie” and offering “massages for gentleman.” Additionally police said they found more contraband used for prostitution including lingerie and boxes of condoms.
Sanchez was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana. His bond was set at $ 50 and he was given a court date of June 13.
Morales-Avila was charged with prostitution. Her bond was set at
$ 5,000 and she was given a court date of June 13.
Urbano-Roman, of Main Street, was charged with patronizing a prostitute. His bond was set at $ 5,000 and he was given a court date of June 13.
The female, later identified as Guadalupe Morales-Avila, 29, of Queens, N.Y., was in possession of a large amount of cash wrapped in a napkin along with additional cash in a purse.
