Cop shot in on-duty accident denied workers’ compensation

-

“‘Roselle declined to name the officer involved, saying he knew the officer was suffering his own trauma from the accident. The two are still friends.’ Wait, a weapon was accidentally discharged and the public isn’t allowed to know who it was? If you or I discharged that weapon, we’d hit front page. And I’m a brother of a trooper and son of a former deputy. I find this outrageous.

PS: Give this guy his goddamn workers’ comp. What the hell is wrong with the commission?”

“I knew Philip when he was young. He was such a nice young man, so respectful of me as his friend’s mother. I think it’s sad he cannot get workers’ compensation.”

—Margaret Amato via Facebook

“Shame on you, Ray Burney, the commission and the Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency. How can you even begin to say that the reason for denying his workers’ compensation is because of an underlying health problem which is Type 1 diabetes. Officer Roselle has been a devoted police officer for the town of Norwalk for the past 30 years and having Type 1 diabetes did not stop him. If Officer Roselle was in work the day of the shooting and the week prior to the shooting and the month prior to the shooting and a year prior to the shooting, how in the hell is him having Type 1 diabetes the reason for him being out of work now? It angers me how this town can turn their back on an officer that has put his life on the line. I certainly hope this works out in Officer Roselle’s favor. I am rooting for you.”

“Philip is one of the best anyone could know.

I had the pleasure of working with him when I was an EMT for Norwalk Hospital. It was great to have Philip on any of my calls.

Hoping for the best for him and his family.

This is also not the first time there were problems with the city and what officers deserve.”

“What? I hope he’s suing the police department! How do you deny someone WC, that doesn’t even sound right.”

—Sandy Kathleen via Facebook

“It’s a damn shame. The city should step up and make this right.”

“Monies available to boost the mayor’s assistant salary by $36k and no monies to take care of our injured police? Where is Mayor Riling, our former police chief, here?”
