The Norwalk Hour

Election-time follies

- Lanny Goldman Norwalk

So the people of Connecticut soon will have the opportunity to elect a new governor and assorted lawmakers to oversee the operation of the state. These various candidates again are spewing the rhetorical nonsense that simply is not achievable and many residents don’t care about. Lower taxes? When pigs fly! Our state’s infrastructure has crumbled, yielding less business-related income. The state’s non-taxpayer census has grown.

What is going to be done about the I-95 corridor? It was deemed obsolete long ago. The only reaction is “studies,” which the state has paid for previously. This state is in need of a total scrubbing. And yes, that includes Sen. Richard Blumenthal who’s murdering us in Washington. And state Sen. Toni Boucher who is responsible for killing the Super 7 project, a much-needed link and who prefers state residents pay higher taxes than install tolls.

Seemingly most lawmakers who are representing you are there for their own interests and well being. A politician’s primary goal is to get re-elected. Their motto: React to everything and act on nothing.

Our candidates are dropping words like “lower taxes.” Let’s try to improve the state’s educational systems. How about building new roads to make the commute easier for the enormous number of commuters? Start caring for those who positively contribute to the state and aren’t just a burden. Allow projects and industry to redevelop without the ridiculous red tape.

People, we have an opportunity to “clean slate” the state. Probably better off to sample some of the unknown than to continue with the status quo. We are residents of a dying state. Party line mentality is murdering the state and the country. Think.
