Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods extend casino shutdowns
Connecticut’s casinos extended their shutdown until at least another two weeks Tuesday, with Mohegan Sun saying it would be at least May 26 and Foxwoods saying that even Memorial Day weekend wasn’t likely.
“Our current plans don’t have a specific opening date,” wrote Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman Rodney Butler in an email, “but on or before Memorial Day is not likely given the amount of preparations our team is doing to make Foxwoods a safe environment for team members and guest alike.
“We’re developing a phased reopening plan that takes into consideration appropriate social distancing and some of the most stringent safety and health protocols in the industry. We look forward to the day we safely reopen the doors of Foxwoods for all to enjoy.”
Mohegan Sun released a statement saying that, with the health and safety of all employees and guests the
No. 1 priority, “Mohegan Sun will remain closed to the public through at least May 26th, with no opening date determined at this time.”
The statement read that Mohegan Sun will continue working with local and regional health experts and government officials to make an informed decision on a reopening date, which Mohegan Sun hopes to announce soon.
“Mohegan Sun is greatly appreciative of the incredible healthcare, first responders and front-line workers in our region and beyond during this challenging time,” the release said.
