NORWALK — Public school officials said they have begun contact tracing after a member of the Columbus Magnet School community tested positive for COVID-19.

School officials were notified of the positive test Friday, a notice on the district’s website said.

“The affected person has been instructed to remain home in self-isolation and has been provided with additional instructions to follow prior to returning to school,” the notice said. “Family members have also been instructed to contact their healthcare provider about getting tested.”

Students required to quarantine will take virtual lessons.

The notice did not say whether the person who tested positive was a student or district employee. The infected person was last in the building Sept. 16, school officials said.

One classroom has been instructed to learn remotely until Oct. 1, the statement said.

Three other cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, were reported in Norwalk public schools last

week.

Those cases resulted in all P-TECH staff and students learning remotely for fourteen days beginning Monday. One Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School classroom and several Silvermine staff were also told to go to virtual learning for 14 days.

Several bus routes serving Brien McMahon High School, Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy and Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School were also affected, and riders were told to go to virtual learning for 14 days.
